A detailed assessment of your child’s speech and language skills is essential so that we can plan how to best meet their needs. Ideally, the initial assessment should take place at home, so that we can meet you and get to know your child where they are most comfortable and confident. This first appointment will last at least one hour, and will include time to discuss your concerns and for the therapist to take a case history.

Assessment with your child is likely to involve informal play and observations, with formal standardised assessment tools as needed. At the end of the visit, the therapist will provide verbal feedback and a plan of action will be suggested. If further therapy is required, we will agree specific goals and set a timeframe for these to be reviewed. A written assessment report can be requested.
